Objectives

  • Strengthen the shared identity of two valleys through a cultural initiative linked to their common railway heritage.

Dates : 01/06/2022 – 30/12/2022
Budget : 25 000 €

Project actions

  • Initial steps towards ongoing collaboration between two local cross-border cultural organisations with a long-term joint work plan.
  • Organisation of two major joint events highlighting the Canfranc railway line not only as infrastructure but also as a collective achievement of mountain communities, linking past, present and future.
  • Launch of an exhibition on the collective memory of Canfranc.

Results

  • Study and initial steps towards a joint application for the protection of the ‘Pau-Canfranc line’ railway heritage (UNESCO World Heritage Site or European Cultural Heritage Label).
  • Organisation of the annual historical re-enactment of the arrival of the railway in Canfranc.
  • Creation of a permanent photographic exhibition on the Canfranc railway line.

This call for microprojects has been funded with the surplus of the Spain–France–Andorra Territorial Cooperation Operational Programme (POCTEFA) 2007–2013, which was transferred to the Member States (Spain and France) as national contributions, thus losing its status as ERDF funds.
