Project actions
Initially, two pairs of cross-border artists, who knew the area well, were trained to carry out a joint project. The ultimate aim was to jointly create two interventions for the Gavarres Protected Natural Area, as part of the Art & Gavarres Festival.
The first phase of the project focused on the Catalan region, during the fifth edition of the Art & Gavarres International Art and Landscape Festival, organised and produced by the Consorci de les Gavarres since 2018. As part of this festival, artistic interventions were carried out in the natural environment, within the Gavarres Protected Natural Area.
The resulting works were exhibited throughout the three months of the festival. They remained in the very place in which they were created until they deteriorated or disappeared, or until they were dismantled at the end of the festival.
The second part of the project took place across the border and consisted of two actions.
The first action involved organising an exhibition at the La Providence venue.
The exhibition included preparatory material for the pieces presented at the Art & Gavarres Festival (sketches, models, notes, etc.), as well as graphic and audiovisual material documenting this work. The exhibition was organised by the art centre itself and was open to the public from mid-November until the end of the year. It provided an opportunity to raise awareness of the Art & Gavarres Festival initiative, generate interest and attract audiences and participants from across the border for future editions.
The second initiative carried out in France was of an educational nature. Thanks to the existing links that La Providence maintains with the bilingual schools in Ille-sur-Têt, the Catalan artists delivered a series of educational activities in France aimed at introducing pupils to the area on the other side of the border and raising their environmental awareness through art.
